Major transport group endorses Sen. Bam’s re-election bid

A major transport organization in the country has named re-electionist Sen. Bam Aquino as its lone senatorial candidate to support in the May 13 elections.

During its Monday’s meeting, the Alliance of Concerned Transport Organizations (ACTO), led by its national president Efren De Luna, formally announced the group’s full support behind Sen. Bam.

“Sa Mayo a-trese, wala po tayong ibang ilalagay kundi Bam Aquino, ibalik sa Senado,” said De Luna as he and other ACTO officials raised the hands of Sen. Bam to make the group’s endorsement official.

“Sa pamamagitan ni Sen. Bam Aquino, palaging bukas ang Senado para iparating ang ating mga problema,” added De Luna.

According to De Luna, Sen. Bam’s endorsement was approved by around 475,000 ACTO officials and members nationwide from different modes of transportation.

In his speech, Sen. Bam thanked ACTO officials and members for their trust, saying the group’s support will serve as huge boost in his bid for a second term.

“Malaking tulong ang suportang ito ng ACTO para maipagpatuloy natin ang ating partnership sa Senado,” said Sen. Bam, assuring that he will continue to serve as the transport sector’s voice in the Upper Chamber.

Sen. Bam filed a public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization bill with the support of ACTO, National Confederation of Transport Union (NCTU), Sentro, and Philippine Advocates for Transport Convergence.

In his Senate Bill No. 2056, Sen. Bam seeks to make jeepneys safer and more efficient for commuters and the environment, while ensuring the livelihood of drivers and their families.

“Kung gusto talaga natin ng modernisasyon, dapat makatarungan ito at abot-kaya para sa ating mga driver para hindi sila mawalan ng kabuhayan,” said Sen. Bam during his speech.

“Hindi dapat maapektuhan ang ating mga kabuhayan ng mga polisiya na hindi naman pinag-aralan nang husto. Naririto ako para bantayan at protektahan ang inyong hanapbuhay sa Senado,” he added.

Before the event, Sen. Bam joined pedicab, tricycle, and motorbike riders in a short walk to the venue.

Earlier, the NCTU also expressed full support behind the re-election bid of Sen. Bam, whom they consider as a dependable ally against the government’s oppressive modernization plan.

Sen. Bam thanks voters for continued trust amid deluge of fake news

Sen. Bam Aquino thanked the Filipino people for their continued trust and support after he landed in the top 12 of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) senatorial survey.

“Salamat po sa mga kababayan natin para sa lumalakas na suporta sa kabila ng mga paninira sa akin,” said Sen. Bam, who was in a tie for 10th to 12th places in the SWS survey conducted from February 25 to 28.

Sen. Bam expressed gratitude to the people who fight for the truth amid the prevalence of fake news and trolls that seek to destroy his reputation and accomplishments.

“Napakahalaga po ng tiwala ninyo sa akin at sa tinrabaho natin sa Senado nitong nakaraang anim na taon,” added Sen. Bam.

Sen. Bam called on voters to unite and strengthen their fight for an independent Senate that will protect the welfare of the public.

“Magkaisa po tayo at palakasin pa natin ang laban para sa isang independent na Senado bilang tunay na kakampi ng taumbayan,” Sen. Bam said.

Sen. Bam breaks into top 12 in SWS survey

Sen. Bam Aquino improved significantly in the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, climbing to 11thspot from 14th place in December.

Sen. Bam garnered 33 percent, up from 24 percent last month, in the SWS survey conducted from January 23 to 26, 2019.

The SWS survey marked the second straight time that Sen. Bam made it to the top 12.  The incumbent senator placed 10th to 16th in the Pulse Asia poll conducted from Dec. 14 to 21, with 32.6 percent.

In a statement, Sen. Bam thanked his supporters for his significant improvement in the SWS poll, but stressed that the fight still has a long way to go.

“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa mga patuloy na nagtitiwala at sumusuporta sa atin. Subalit mahaba pa po ang ating laban na ating susuungin,” said Sen. Bam.

Sen. Bam also underscored the importance of scrutinizing the track record and accomplishments of all the candidates so they select the right candidate in the 2019 elections.

“Mahalagang suriin ng ating mga botante ang mga nagawa ng isang kandidato upang mapili nila ang tamang tao na titingin sa kanilang kapakanan,” added Sen. Bam.

In almost six years as lawmaker, Sen. Bam has 35 laws to his name, including the landmark free college law and the Go Negosyo Act.

Sen.

Senator Bam Aquino hopes that a candidate’s track record and accomplishments will matter most in the 2019 elections.

“Kaya tayo tumututol sa No-El, para magka-eleksiyon at magkaalaman na. Ano ba ang talaga ang ginawa para sa bayan? Ano ba ang plano mo para sa tao,” said Sen. Bam in reply to Sec. Bong Go’s statement to President Duterte’s critics.

The lawmaker said the 2019 elections should serve as an acid test for a candidate’s performance.

“I’m hoping that the 2019 elections, hindi lang ito popularity contest, o paramihan ng tarpaulin o paramihan ng giveaway. Sana isa itong eleksiyon kung saan kailangan mo talagang suriin ang bawat kandidato,” said Sen. Bam.

“Ano ba ang naibigay sa taumbayan, ano ba ang pinaglalaban, saan ba siya tahimik? Let’s have an elections na iyon ang focus, para makapili tayo ng mga pinunong makatutulong sa bayan,” added the senator.

Sen. Bam has 24 laws in his five years as senator, including the Go Negosyo Act and the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.

He was the principal sponsor of the law making college education free in public universities and colleges.

Sen. Bam to join ‘The Resistance’, genuine opposition slate

Senator Bam Aquino insisted that he will join a genuine opposition slate for the 2019 midterm elections, saying the country needs a coalition that is willing to dissent and oppose government policies that are not helpful or even detrimental to the Filipino people.

In a television interview, Sen. Bam clarified that he has never spoken to Sen. Koko Pimentel about PDP-Laban or Mayor Sara Duterte about Hugpong ng Pagbabago.

“In 2019, hindi lang ‘The Force’ kailangan, we need ‘The Resistance’ – a genuine opposition slate. Kailangan ng mga taong magsasama-sama, magtutulong-tulong para labanan ang polisiya ng administrasyon na nakakasakit sa tao. You will find me on that slate,” said Sen. Bam.

“You need a slate that’s independent from PDP-Laban, that’s willing to oppose, willing to stand up even if it’s unpopular, and even when it’s dangerous. Kailangan natin ng oposisyon para sa ating demokrasya,” the senator added.

Sen. Bam said the Liberal Party (LP) will join the coalition slate, which will be made up of people willing to speak out and stand up against Malacanang’s policies that may be damaging to the people.

“The people willing to answer the call should join forces,” Sen. Bam pointed out.

Sen. Bam also stressed the importance for the 2019 elections to push through to show the true sentiment of the people.

“Let’s fight any no-election scenario that might be in the works,” Sen. Bam said.

However, Sen. Bam said it’s too early to talk about politics, saying the country is facing problems that need to be addressed immediately.

“Mas maraming isyu na dapat pag-usapan ngayon kaysa sa pulitika at eleksiyon, na isang taon pa bago mangyari,” said Sen. Bam.
